ROBERT LANG WINS MOLSON CUP FOR JANUARY
In keeping with the recent tradition of role players stepping up and answering the call while the primary scorers are presently either injured, just coming back from injury or just plain not evident, the Habs have announced that Robert Lang, one of the teams brightest aspects of late, was named the Molson's player of the month for January, a month that saw the Canadiens just barely play for a win over .500 for the month.
Please read on for the official Canadiens press release.
Robert Lang is the Molson Cup Player of the Month for January. Lang, acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks last September, wins the Molson Cup for the first time of his career.
Lang registered 12 points in Molson Cup standings in January after being voted first star of the game once and earning two second-star selections and one third-star selection. Lang finished ahead of teammates Andrei Markov (10 points) and Andrei Kostitsyn (8 points).
Lang recorded 13 points (6 goals and 7 assists) in as many games in January. He registered a hat trick in a 6-3 win over the Rangers on January 7 at Madison Square Garden. During the month, the Czech Republic native also netted three power-play goals and added one short-handed marker.
Lang will be presented with the Molson Cup during a pre-game ceremony prior to today’s game against the Boston Bruins, at the Bell Centre.
