Remparts Stung By Juniors 5-2

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

Make that 2 wins against two division leaders in 2 games for the Montreal Juniors.

After a convincing 4-2 victory over their Western division leading Gatineau Olympiques, the Juniors repeated their Modus Operandi by jumping out to an early 3-0 lead and then battled to preserve the win over the Quebec Remparts by a score of 5-2 .

Montreal got into some penalty trouble in the tail end of the 2nd frame, putting them down 2 men and Patrick Roy decided a 5 on 3 wasn’t enough, so he pulled his net-minder to add a sixth attacker on the ice. The Juniors were able to defend until the buzzer ended the second period, but in the early moments of the third, Quebec, still on a 6 on 3, managed to put one past Jake Allen, who should have been given the game’s first star.

On a night where NHL Hall of Famer Raymond Bourque was honoured, his son Ryan, scored the Remparts’ second goal to put them within 1, however, Patrick Roy’s hopes of repeating the antics of the 2nd period resulted in Montreal scoring 2 more goals into the empty net. Trevor Parkes got one of them for his second of the night and 5th in 2 games. His first goal was a highlight reel one timer at the right of the circle during the only power-play of 7 that the Juniors were able to score on.

The Juniors’ home stand before they head out on the road does not end on an easy note. They will now face, on Tuesday night, the league leading, Memorial cup defending champion and CHL top ten ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Montreal, November 8th – The Montreal Juniors earned their second consecutive win as they defeated the Quebec Remparts by the score of 5 to 2.  The Juniors took the lead in the first period and never looked back.  Forwards Louis-Marc Aubry and Trevor Parkes led the way with two goals each while winger Pier-Antoine Dion also had a goal and an assist.  Goaltender Jake Allen was excellent in the victory as he stopped 29 shots.

Midway through the first, the Juniors took the lead when forward Louis-Marc Aubry scored the only goal of the period as he tapped in the rebound for his third of the year from Pier-Antoine Dion and Alex Wall.   Montreal outplayed Quebec in the second as the Juniors added two more goals and outshot the opponent 17 to 7.  Just five minutes into second, winger Pier-Antoine Dion scored his seventh of the season from Nicolas Chouinard and Louis-Marc Aubry.  Montreal stretched the lead to three goals when Juniors leading scorer Trevor Parkes put the puck through Remparts goaltender Jean-Philippe Gagnon’s pads for his twelfth of the year on the power play at 10:09.  Guillaume Asselin and Alex Wall were on the helpers.  That goal concluded Jean-Philippe Gagnon’s day as he was replaced by Eric Bourdon.

The game got tighter in the third.  The Remparts took advantage on the 5 on 3 power play when forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand put the loose puck into the net at 1:01 from Ryan Bourque and Danick Paquette.  Remparts winger Ryan Bourque cut the deficit to one when he scored on the rebound chance from Marc-Olivier Vallerand’s shot at 8:53.  The Juniors put the game away when Trevor Parkes and Louis-Marc Aubry added the two empty netters towards the end of the game.  The Juniors beat the Remparts by the final score of 5 to 2.

St. Louis Blue’s prospect and Juniors goalie Jake Allen was superb in the victory as he made 29 saves.  Remparts goalie Jean-Philippe Gagnon gave up 3 goals on 26 shots and was handed the loss.  His replacement Eric Bourdon made all 11 saves.  The Juniors are now to 11-9-0-1 while the Remparts fall to 14-4-2-3.

Montreal Juniors will conclude this four-game homestand against top ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs, on Tuesday at 7:35PM.  Then, the Juniors will go on a short two-game roadtrip.  They will take on Rouyn-Noranda Huskies on November 13th and Val-d’Or Foreurs on November 14th.  The Juniors will return to Montreal on Friday, November 20th as they take on the Halifax Mooseheads.
