
QMJHL - Montreal Juniors Win in against PEI Rocket and St John Seadogs

The Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) had just left Cape Breton with a 7-1 loss and were looking to rebound as their Maritime road swing continued. Their first stop was in Prince Edward Island where they defeated the Rocket 2-1 and then headed to St John, NB the very next day where they dispatched the Seadogs by a score of 3-1.
They play in L'acadie Bathurst today (game recap to follow) and then head home to Verdun on Friday when they will host the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

February 20th, 2009It was a much-needed win on Friday night for the Junior as they faced off against the PEI Rocket. The Junior rebounded tonight, after one of their worst loses of the season, as they took two points in PEIwith a 2-1 win.
The Junior found themselves down a goal early in the first frame as PEI's Stuart Lenehan was able to beat Jake Allen on a short-handed opportunity at 2:37 for his 3rd of the season. Despite firing 14 shots at PEI net-minder Bobby Nadeau in the first the Junior would find themselves down a goal entering the second. –
Looking to get off to a better start in the second, the Junior would get their tying goal at 3:19 as Chris Thorne found the back of the net for his 3rd of the season. After a flurry of shots and penalties assessed to both teams, Junior Matthew Brenton would give his team the lead on an unassisted shorthanded goal with just 43 seconds left in the period. The goal would prove to be the winner, as the third period remained scoreless.
Continuing their road swing tomorrow night, the Junior will play in St. John at 7:00pm, followed by an afternoon matchup on Sunday against the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst. The team will return home to the Verdun Auditorium on Friday February 27th for a matchup against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Montreal, February 21st, 2009 – A two point night by three Junior players would give the Junior the win on Saturday night as they beat the St. John Sea Dogs by a score of 3-1. Continuing their Martime road-trip, the Juniors would win their second game in as many nights with the win over the Sea Dogs.
After taking and killing off four penalties in the first period, the Junior would get themselves on the board just twelve seconds into the second frame on a power-play goal by Dmitri Kostromitin for his third of the season. Moments later, the Junior would extend their lead at the at 9:16 as captain Matt Fillier would beat goalie Robert Mayer to give his team a two-goal cushion.
During a penalty filled third period, Sea Dog Mike Thomas was finally able to beat Junior goalie Jake Allen as he tallied St John's only goal at 16:32, to bring his team within one. The Junior would restore their two goal lead just a minute later on Kostromitin's second goal of the night, and would allow the Junior to skate out of St. John with a win by a score of 3-1.
Matt Fillier, Dmitri Kostromitin and Nick Layton each had two point nights in the win over the Sea Dogs. The Junior will play Sunday afternoon in Acadie-Bathurst and will return home to the Verdun Auditorium on Friday February 27th at 7.30pm for a matchup against the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
