QMJHL - Montreal Juniors Trade Luke Adam to Screaming Eagles, Draft New Prospects
The Montreal Juniors Hockey Club was active these past few days as the QMJHL trade period and draft officially got underway this weekend.
The Juniors traded 18 year-old forward Luke Adam to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in return of 19 year-old forward Nicolas Chouinard, 17 year-old defenseman Spencer MacDonald from Charlottetown and a 2009 first round pick (14th overall).
Both Adam and Chouinard have come off similar seasons with 22 goals and 27 assists each, however Chouinard was active in 66 games, whereas Adam only played in 47 as his season was cut short due to injuries, including a ruptured spleen towards the end of the season.
With the first round draft pick received in the Adam trade, Montreal selected Xavier Ouellet, however it would seem that Ouellet may never don a Juniors jersey as it appears he has informed the Juniors' GM and head coach Pascal Vincent that he prefers to pursue his hockey career in the United States. Vincent is still hopeful he can have Ouellet in Montreal some time before he turns 20.
Russian defenseman Dmitri Kostromitin was also traded with his destination being to Rouyn-Norandain exchange for a 6th round pick in this year’s draft. With Toni Ritter still on the roster, this leaves room for one more European player and it is rumoured that Pascal Vincent has his eye on a few prospects at the forward position.
Finally, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar traded their 2009 6th round pick to Montreal’s for its 2010 5th round pick.
In all, here are the other Montreal Juniors draftees for the 2009 draft:
Marc-André Levasseur (2nd), Jonathan Narbonne (3rd), Jean-Christophe Laflamme (4th), Étienne Marcoux (5th), Loïc Poudrier (6th), Guillaume Bélanger (6th), Hugo Roux (6th), Michael Novella (8th), Paul Bourbeau Jr (9th), Marc-Antoine Fréchette (10th), Philippe Saviuk (10th), Devan Gunn (11th), Phillipe Prucha (12th), Marc-Antoine Carrier (12th) et Christian Kader (12th).
Much thanks to Pierre-Luc Chenel of "Sports Junior" Magazine for most of the draft info.
