QMJHL - Montreal Juniors Lose Heartbreaker Game 2 in OT Vs Drummondville Voltigeurs

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Junior tried to forget their game one 7-1 defeat as quickly as they could. It showed in their effort on Saturday night, enroute to a 4-3 overtime loss against the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the game two matchup. Jake Allen faced 49 shots.

Montreal looked to come out strong, and struck first as Pat O'Keefe fired a shot past Marco Cousineau at the thirty-four second mark of the first. Gabriel Dumont got Drummondville on the board at the end of the first period, when his shot beat Junior netminder Jake Allen.

Looking to regain the lead in the second, Samuel Grenache and Dmitri Kostromitin tallied 17 second apart giving the Junior a two goal lead 12:07 into the second frame. Drmmondville's Dany Massé would reduce the Juniors lead to one, when he cashed in his 9th goal of the post-season. The Voltigeurs replaced Cousineau with goalie Antoine Tardif in the middle of the second frame.

The Voltigeurs quickly tied the game in the third period on Dany Massé's second goal of the night. With neither team able to break the tie in regulation sudden-death overtime was needed.

Despite the Junior holding the lead for much of the game, the Voltigeurs tallied in overtime on a goal by Marc-Olivier Vachon. With the win, Drummondville leads the series 2-0.

The two teams return to Montreal for games three and four on Tuesday and Wednesday night at 7pm at the Verdun Auditorium.
