QMJHL - Montreal Juniors Drop a Point to Baie Comeau Drakkar in First Ever Shootout
It was a waiting game from beginning to end, but a finish well worth the wait. You had to wait until 11:02 of the first for the Drakkar's 1st shot on net. You had to wait until past the midway point of the second for the first goal of the game to be scored, putting Baie Comeau up on a goal by Roman Malinik and then when you thought the game was over, Luke Allen got 2 quick goals (18th and 19th) on Nick Layton feeds and if you thought the game was over, well, you would have to wait a little longer!
With 54 seconds left in regulation time, Félix Petit chipped his 15th of the season past Jake Allen who had a relatively less busy night facing 25 shots sending the game into overtime which would solve nothing. In the ensuing shootout, Félix Petit was once again the hero as he potted the only goal of the contest between Allen's legs. Shooters for Montreal, Luke Adam, newly acquired Jérémy Gouchie and Nick Layton were unable to solve Marco Cousineau who faced 37 shots prior to the shootout.
On paper, Montreal should have handily won this contest, facing a team that was a relative bottom dweller in the QMJHL and having 15points less than the Juniors and worse records in all categories including PP, PK, GA and GF. But as we know, numbers are just numbers and it's all a matter of playing until the last buzzer sounds and not taking your opponents too lightly in order to collect the 2 points on a game by game basis.

In all, regardless of the outcome for the home crowd of 2,689, this contest gave them their money's worth, treating them to the franchise's first ever shootout which all in attendance stayed and cheered for.
One would expect Montreal, who has until Saturday afternoon to prepare for the Lewiston MaineIacs, who presently sport a worse record than the Drakkar. After Montreal plays Lewiston, they play another home game the very next day against division rival Rouyn Noranda before embarking on an extensive road trip that sees them away from the Verdun Auditorium for the rest of this month.
