Pre-season Ends On Positive Note

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The setting was the Colisée de Laval and the opponents were the Baie Comeau Drakkar and with the last game of the Montreal Juniors’ pre-season being played, it was perhaps the last chance for some players to make their mark on Pascal Vincent and his coaching staff before the final cuts were to be announced.

Rookie goaltender Paul Bourbeau Jr, who had not seen too much action in the pre-season, playing in 2 half games thus far, was between the pipes for the full 60 on this night. Early in the 1st period, after having made several key saves, gave up a goal he would surely love to have back as a missed pass slid between his pads, but he remained solid and stopped the every other shot that came his way for the remainder of the night.

Add Trevor Parkes to the list of players wanting to stick around. He not only scored the game tying goal in the second period, but potted the game winner in the third.

Please read on for the official Juniors’ game recap.

Montreal, September 4th, 2009 – The Montreal Juniors hosted the Baie-Comeau Drakkar this Friday at the Colisée de Laval. The team has a pre-season record of 4-2. The Juniors have already played in Longueuil, Shawinigan, Pointe-Claire, Valleyfield and Côte Saint-Luc. Montreal will announce its official roster before Friday, September 11th so players had their last chance to fight for the places still available. Montréal won 2-1.

In the first, Baie-Comeau’s Guillaume Langelier-Parent scored the first goal of the evening.

During the second period, the Juniors came back in the game and Trevor Parkes filled the net with teammate Philippe Fontaine.

Finally, the Montreal Juniors took over the game in the third period when Trevor Parkes found the back of the net for the second time of the night.

The Montreal Juniors ended their preseason games on a good note. The first game of the 2009-2010 regular season will be away from Montreal against the Shawinigan Cataractes on September 11th.  Then, the Montreal Juniors will visit Victoriaville, Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda (on September, 13th, 18th and 19th) before the home opening game at the Verdun Auditorium on Friday, September 25th, at 7:35 pm.
