Overtime Win for Juniors
In my phone conversation with Pascal Vincent yesterday, he said that a road trip at the beginning of the season is great for team building. I can only assume that winning during that same time span only accelerates the process.
The Montreal Juniors headed into Val-D’Or with a 1-1 record so far on the road and came back from a 5-4 deficit in the third period to eventually win 6-5 in overtime, much to the dismay of the Val D’Or crowd who were in attendance for the Foreur’s home opener.
It would appear that the rookie to look out for in the Junior’s camp is 18 year old left-winger Trevor Parkes from Fort Erie Ontario who has amassed 4 goals and 1 assist in the Juniors first 3 games.
Team captain Nicolas Chouinard and Last year’s rookie great Guillaume Asselin also figured in the scoring, but it was Hubert Genest that clinched the game in overtime.
Read on for the official Juniors’ recap.
Montreal, September 18th, 2009 – With a winning record of 2-1 so far in the 2009-2010 regular season, the Montreal Juniors celebrated Friday night, the return of star goalie JF Bérubé who participated in the LA Kings NHL camp. The Juniors won 6-5 in overtime against the Foreurs de Val-d’Or at Centre Air-Creebec.
Rookie Trevor Parkes and Captain Nicolas Chouinard filled the net to give the lead to their team early in the first. Val-d’Or’s Keven Guérette-Charland, Simon Lacroix and Christian Morin struck back hard with three unanswered goals.
In the second frame, #17 Guillaume Asselin and #41 Nicolas Chouinard gave the lead back to the Juniors before Guérette-Charland and Morin each scored their second goal of the night. It was 5-4 for Val-d’Or after 40 minutes.
Juniors’ #19 Trevor Parkes tied the game early in the third.
The game went in overtime. Veteran Hubert Genest scored the winning goal.
Goalie JF Bérubé stopped 37 shots while Val-d’Or’s Sean Coulton made 44 saves.
The Montreal Juniors will now play in Rouyn-Noranda on September 19th before they drive back to Montreal to play their home opening game on Friday, September 25th, at 7.35pm, against the Lewiston MAINEiacs. The team will then face off against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Verdun on September 27th at 4.05pm.
