Montreal Juniors To Add Belarusian Evgeny Solomonov to 2009-10 Roster

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

According to Sports Juniors ,The Montreal Juniors can count on the services of Belarusian player Evgeny Solomonov as of the 2009-10 season's start. You will remember that last season, the Juniors were only able to fill their limit of 2 European players by mid season (Dmitri Kostromitin and Toni Ritter), however this year, with Kostromitin gone, Ritter already on the squad and Solomonov already set to lace 'em up for season's start, the Juniors are now ahead of where they were last year at this time during their inaugural season.

“He's player who is very combative who played in a league full of men last year," said head coach and GM, Pascal Vincent about the left winger. "He's not a 50 goal scorer, but he's a young player who will bring speed and intensity to our team. From what we've seen and heard on him, he can bring another dimension to our team. He also can't wait to come to play in Canada.

With the departure of key players Nick Layton, Matt Fillier Luke Adam and Angelo Esposito, to name a few, will Solomonov be able to play on one of the top 2 lines from day one?  “It's a little like buying by mail order catalogue. We do not have the budget intensive scouting in Europe and everywhere in the world," Vincent said. "According to the information we have, yes he can be a player on our two first lines, but we will know for sure during our training camp.”

Time will tell if Vincent's pick was right. The Juniors' firs exhibition home game is August 21st against the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Much thanks to my friend, Pierre-Luc Chenel and his great articles in French at Sports Juniors for all the info.
