Montreal Juniors Look to Rebound in the Maritimes

No sooner had the proverbial ink dried on my last article praising the Montreal Juniors for their marked improvement on the PK and the PP, when they headed to Rimouski and forced us to raise an eyebrow in this regard, during their 4-0 loss to the Océanic on the 8th.
The Juniors, presently in Halifax where they begin a 3 game in 3 night stint tonight, will look to improve their specialty team play as well as their 5-4 record before coming back home to the Verdun Auditorium on the 17th.
Goaltender Jake Allen posted his first loss of the season as he faced 40 shots, while his team-mates were only able to get 21 on his counterpart, Maxim Gougeon, who earned the game's third star.
Rimouski winger Jordan Caron, the game's 1st star, had the only goals of both the first and 3rd periods while Rimouski scored 2 more in the second, and wont the game by talking advantage of their opportunities where Montreal was seemingly unable to do the same.
Montreal went 0-6 on the power-play while at the same time, getting into penalty trouble of their own, allowing Rimouski to score 3 of their 4 goals on 10 kicks at the power-play can.
Although the season is still young, the trend so far has been, stay out of the box and score when they are in it and you will win, but if the opposite occurs, it's a long walk back to the locker room. The good news however, is that this team is confident enough to overcome this bump in the road and talented enough to improve on what is ailing them, heading down this stretch of games that sees them heading towards familiar territory as they head back to the Maritimes for the weekend.
I say back home because, as you will recall, the Montreal Juniors is a team transplanted from the Maritimes, where they were better known as the St Johns Fog Devils, of which many of todays roster were a part . Many, still call the land they were born and raised in, home.
11 of the 23 man Juniors roster made the trek when the franchise changed address including veterans Nick Layton, Jake Allen, Luke Adam, Alex Wall, Chris Thorne and team captain Matt Fillier, to name a few. All these young men are products of the Maritimes.
So as we wish them a pleasant homecoming of sorts, let us hope that they get the TLC that they need from friends and family, but at the same time, remember that this is a big weekend as far as building on their recent momentum where they will play 3 games in as many nights before the head back to their new home, right here in La Belle Province.
