Montreal Juniors Hold On For 5-3 WIn Over MAINEiacs
Contributor to and friend of The Franchise, Jessica Rusnak was live and in effect at the Verdun Auditorium Tuesday, as the Montreal Juniors faced off against the Lewiston MAINEiacs in an early morning game that started at 10:35AM. Here’s her take on the eventual 5-3 Juniors victory:
The Juniors beat the Lewiston MAINEiacs despite almost dropping a 4-0 lead.
The Juniors completely dominated the first period in all aspects of the game. It was a very physical start to the game two fights occurred before the half way point of the first. Detroit Redwings prospect Trevor Parkes opened up the scoring on the powerplay with help from David Rose and Xavier Ouellet. Xavier Ouellet marked the second goal of the game this one again on the powerplay the assists went to Habs prospect Philippe Lefebvre and Jeremy Gouchie. Matt Provost got a third one past Lewiston's goaltender Andrey Marakov. Trevor Parkes marked his second of the game with help this time from Philippe Lefebvre and Dylan Anderson. The Juniors goaltender JF Berube only face 4 shots in the first while Marakov faced 19.
Lewiston made a goaltender switch and now Nick Champion was in goal for them. The Juniors weren't able to keep their momentum going in the second. Islanders prospect/Russian trouble maker Kirill Kabanov scored the first goal of the game for Lewiston to make it 4-1.
In the third Vancouver Canucks prospect Pierre-Olivier Morin scored to cut the Juniors lead to 2. Not long afterwards Etienne Brodeur scored to make it a one goal game with less than two minutes left on the clock. It was the Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard who scored the empty net goal to secure the Juniors victory.
With this win the Juniors now move up to second place in the league right behind the St John Seadogs and right ahead of their rivals the Quebec Remparts.
