Alexander Avtsin to Play In Montreal Sooner Than Expected?

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

No, he will not be donning a Habs uniform any time soon, but with the news that his rights were acquired by the Juniors this week, Montrealers will have a chance to see this young prospect grow as a member of the QMJHL, right here in Montreal.

The Montreal Juniors will confirm, this week, that they have acquired the rights to Alexander Avtsin from the Quebec Ramparts. In return, the Juniors will give up its first European pick in 2010.

Avtsin was the Montreal Canadiens’ 4th round choice last June.

So far this season, the young right winger played four games with the Moscow Dynamo in the KHL and could move to play with the Juniors next season as he is also fulfilling his military duties in Russia this year.

As was the case with yesterday’s acquisition of David Stich, room had to be made on the roster as only two European players are allowed on one team, and with this another decision had to be made. The Juniors traded Toni Ritter to the Shawinigan Cataracts in return of a 7th round pick.
