Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

With the opening of the USSF transfer window and the recent departure of defenders Stefano Pesoli, Cedric Joqueviel as well as forward Roberto Brown,  the Montreal Impact were expected to make a few roster additions and started with an addition at the striker position.

The team announced today the signing of Quebec forward Ali Gerba for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

If the name sounds familiar, it should be. Gerba, 28, was a member of the Impact  during the 2000, 2003, and 2005 seasons.  In 32 regular season games with Montreal, Gerba managed 12 goals and 4 assists.

"We are very pleased that he is back with the club," said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. "He is back at the right age, after acquiring a lot of experience elsewhere. We know that he will have no difficulty adapting to our system of play and he knows the philosophy of the club. Everywhere he has played, he has been able to score goals. And Ali has shown us that he is motivated to continue his career in Montreal."

Gerba was recently released from Toronto FC, who he had been with since June 23rd, 2009.

Previous teams for Gerba include: Gerba has also worn the uniform of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Toronto Lynx, in USSF Second division. After leaving the Impact during the 2005 season, he played in Europe with GIF Sundsvall, IFK Gotenborg, Odd Grenland, AC Horsens and Ingolstadt 04. In 2008, he scored 10 goals in 16 matches with Milton Keynes, in English third division.

He has also scored 15 goals in 29 matches for the Canadian National Team and is the best Canadian scorer in CONCACAF Gold Cup history with six goals.

Gerba should be in the lineup for the Impact's next home game this Sunday, July 18th, against Baltimore.
