Montreal Impact Release Midfielder Sandro Grande
The Montreal Impact announced Monday morning that midfielder Sandro Grande has been released and will not be back with the team.
The club took this decision following the aggression on team captain and player coach Mauro Biello on July 11, during the match in Minnesota. After exchanging words on the pitch, Grande then grabbed Biello by the throat in frustration before being broken up by teammates.
“Sandro’s act was completely unacceptable and our organization does not tolerate such behaviour,” declared the President of the Impact Joey Saputo. “We have therefore taken the necessary disciplinary measures. Regardless of the circumstances or the player involved, violence is not accepted in our club.”
Grande's release was not a surprise as this was the second incident this season involving the midfielder, who had also been suspended by the club in May for breaching a team rule, allegedly involving insubordination.
Although players insist that being proffessionals allows them to ignore off field distractions, I'm sure this decision, be it welcomed or not, could help the team to move on and focus on the second part of the schedule.
