Winning isn't as easy as it looks. Losing, however, can happen as quickly and as easily as one missed opportunity or a light release in pressure. The Montreal Impact (5-5-2) found this out last night as they were shut out 4-0 by the Portland Timbers (7-1-5), at PGE Park, in Portland, Oregon.

"We were the best team on the field in the first half, but after the second goal, the team broke down and we simply stopped believing," explained head coach Marc Dos Santos. "Today's performance is unacceptable. We allowed them to come at us as they wanted. We gave away four goals due to defensive mistakes and a lack of concentration."

Goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who is one victory and one shutout away from 25 wins and 25 clean sheets in his career with the Impact would havde to wait another game as the Timbers scored early (9th minute goal  by forward Mandjou Keita who deflected his marker via a header from a corner kick) and often ( another goal at the 47th as well as the 56th). If that wasn't enough for the Impact, when the game seemed far out of reach and the team had apparently collectively packed it in, Simon Gatti, in an attempt to pass the ball back to 'keeper Matt Jordan, ended up scoring an own goal, bringing the Timbers lead and eventual final score to 4-0.

The Impact's next game is not a USL competition, but rather the second of six international games that they have organized this season and it will be against the Haitian selection this Wednesday, at Saputo Stadium.

The Impact will then resume their regular season with a game against the Charleston Battery, Sunday, July 5, at Saputo Stadium (3:30 pm, Radio-Canada, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).
