The Canadiens annunced today that they have signed a 1 year 2-way deal with goaltender Curtis Sanford. The 29 year old does have NHL esperience, having played in St Louis and more recently Vancouver so let the rumour mill begin.

Most would say he is heading straight to Hamilton and that he is being added strictly for depth. But with veteran Marc Denis chomping at the bit to play on the big stage and Cedric Desjardins progressing well in Hamilton, as well as Price and Halak taking the top spots in Montreal, isn't Sanford one too many? Just ask Yann Danis.

Is there a trade on the horizon or are we all looking for something to talk about before October? Talk amongst yourselves.

Please read on for the official Habs press release on Sanford.

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of goaltender Curtis Sanford to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2009-10 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Over the past two seasons, Sanford posted an 11-11-1 record with a 2.69 goals-against average, one shutout and a .903 save percentage in 35 regular-season games with the Vancouver Canucks. The 5-10, 187- pound goalie also played 16 regular-season games with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose in 2008-09 and was credited with a 7-3-3 record, a 1.73 goals-against average, two shutouts and a .936 save percentage.

Sanford made his professional debut in 1999-00 with the UHL’s Missouri River Otters and took part in the ECHL All-Star game in 2001-2002.
