The Montreal Alouettes are off to the same start as they experienced the same time last year by winning their first two games of the season. The difference so far, however is that, contrary to last season, they seem to be on the right side of all the bounces in their 2009 quest for redemption.

Montreal, after emerging as the best team in the East last season, was primed for destiny as they participated in the Grey Cup finals, which, coincidently, were held in Montreal. The Calgary Stampeders, as everyone is now aware, had other plans.

Time will tell as to whether the Als will better last season's start by extending their winning streak to 3. Last season saw them win their first 2 games but then lose their next 3 against Teams in the Western Division.

With last night's impressive 50-16 rout of the Edmonton Eskimos, the Als are already 2-0 in the CFL standings and 2-0 vs the West and as was the case last night, appear poised to score more points in as many ways possible.

Until last night's game, Montreal had not scored 50 points since July 24, 2003, and what is more impressive is the way the whole team was implicated in the scoring. Two touchdowns on passes, two running, one on a punt return and another on an interception. Damon Duval, named player of the week for week 1 alsotallied with two field goals and two singles.

Anthony Calvillo had a productive evening with rushing TD of his own and completed 24-of-32 passes for a total 343 yards and two touchdowns. He found Kerry Watkins 9 times and S.J Green, who refused an offer from the Argonauts and stuck with the Als' practice roster made his mark with a TD catch in the fourth.

The game could have been much closer, however if Edmonton's rookie running back Arkee Whitlock, who was replacing oft injured Jesse Lumsden, hadn't dropped two relatively easy touchdown catches and fumbled a ball during his début. Watkins did, however, redeem himself, even if slightly, by scoring the Eskimos only touchdown with just over a minute to go in the game.

Tha Alouettes, with all pistons firing, will look to extend their winning streak and will match up against yet another Western division team when they face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, July 18th.
