Jun 29 Mike Komisarek to Test Free Agency, Canadiens Can Match

While one can't quite say that Mike Komisarek is a goner here in Montreal, it could be argued that one foot is already on the plane out of town.

According to an article at RDS Komisarek's agent has apparently confirmed to the media that the young defenceman has refused the contract offer extended to him by the Montreal Canadiens and would like to see what he could fetch on the open market as of noon tomorrow.

Mike Keater, Komisarek's agent also went on to say that they would like to keep the Canadiens abreast of the situation and give them a chance to match any offer as Komisarek acknowledges the good treatment he has had from the team.

This is all fine and dandy and sounds good in a prepared statement, but if anyone has any last words they would like to impart on Mike, they better do so now, before they have to travel a bit further to do so.

There is no way that the Canadiens will match any offer a rival team will offer Komisarek. If his "show me the money" agent would have concocted a counter offer, perhaps the two parties would still be talking today, but to go and announce that they will test the waters on July 1st and hoping to still sign with the Habs is an insult to everyone's intelligence.

While I was an admirer of Mr Komisarek, it appeared as if he lost his "mojo" since his fight against Milan Lucic in the 2008-09 season. Mike has never recovered since and was no longer the imposing presence that opponents feared in the past. He does not score, he doesn't have that crisp outlet pass that a Markov or even a Hamrlik possess and if he is no longer able to instil fear in his own end of the ice, perhaps that Habs' inability to retain his services is a blessing in disguise.

Thanks for what could have been, Mike. Good luck on any other team  but the Bruins or the Leafs. Hope you find your mojo.
