Mattheiu Proulx Named CFL Canadian Player of the Month

This week The CFL announced that free safety Matthieu Proulx was named August’s Canadian Player of the Month.
Proulx recorded a team leading four interceptions last month and notched seven defensive tackles as well as five more on special teams. He was a force to be reckoned with in the Alouettes’ last few games before the bye-week and looked like he was building on the momentum, however it looks like that momentum has come to a crashing halt.
On Monday, Proulx was placed on the nine-game injured list, with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Bad news for the Als, and Proulx alike. Étienne Boulay, who had the job before Proulx, will play in his place for the duration of the injury.
“We lost a guy who was having a tremendous season,” said coach Marc Trestman. “He was the quarterback of our perimeter and played on special teams. We lost a guy critically important. But Etienne’s played capably when in there, and this is a great opportunity for him.”
It is to note that this is the first time in Proulx’s career that he is selected Canadian Player of the Month.
