Lewiston Ties Series in Convincing game 2 Win Over Juniors
The Lewiston MAINEiacs took game two in their best-of-seven series against the Montreal Juniors by a 6 to 2 score, tying the series at one.
The game was rather even up until the end of the 2nd period, where the score was 2-2, however the Juniors got into penalty trouble in the third that resulted in 4 unanswered goals. Coach Pascal Vincent said the undisciplined play was the main factor for their loss and that his team would have to curtail the pointless penalties going forward.
Lewiston's defenseman Olivier Dame-Malka used his cannon of a shot to his advantage. He was able to get the puck past Jean-Francois Berube 4 times on the powerplay. With those 4 goals Dame-Malka tied a league record for the most goals scored by a defenseman in the playoffs. The other 2 players to reach that plateau are Marc- Antoine Desnoyers in 2010 and David Savard in 2009.
The series shifts to Lewiston for games 3 and 4 while Game 5 is back in Verdun on Friday April 15th.
Read on for the official Juniors game recap.
In the first period, Charles-Olivier Roussel opened the scoring for Montreal with his first of the post season. Olivier Dame-Malka would get the goal back for Lewiston by scoring his third of the playoffs, sending the teams back to the locker room tied at one.
In the second period, it was Jérémy Gouchie's turn to give the Juniors' the lead, notching his third of the playoffs. But once more, Dame-Malka brought the teams back to square one before the end of the frame, this time with his fourth of the post-season.
In the third period, the MAINEiacs took control of the game, scoring four unanswered goals. Olivier Dame-Malka found the back of the net twice more, his fifth and sixth of the playoffs, followed by Pierre-Olivier Morin's second of the post-season and Antoine Houde-Caron's first of the playoffs into an empty net.
Lewiston's Samuel Carrier picked up three assists.
Lewiston goaltender Nicholas Champion turned aside 32 of the 34 shots he faced, while Montreal's Jean-François Bérubé stopped 28 of the 33 pucks fired his way.
