Juniors Unable to Make it Two Wins Vs Gatineau in Preseason Play
The Montreal Juniors were back at it against the Gatineau Olympiques in a back to back pre-season stint that saw the Juniors win 3-2 Friday night, but Gatineau answering in kind with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. With only a few cuts remaining before the Juniors announce their final roster, every remaining pre-season game is vital for the players suiting up.
Please read on for the Juniors' post game recap.
Montreal, August 29th, 2009 – After a win Friday night in Pointe-Claire against the Olympics, the Juniors hit the road on Saturday to meet Gatineau for a second night in a row. However, the Juniors did not shine as they did in their last two games as Gatineau won 5-2.
During the first period, Montreal’s rookie Eliezer Sherbatov scored his second goal of the preseason. Only one minute later, Gatineau’s Adam Janosik scored on the Juniors’ goaltender, Paul Bourbeau.
Not much action in the second period as Gatineau’s Alexandre Quesnel took advantage of his team’s 7th powerplay to score. It was 2-1 Gatineau after 40 minutes.
Within the final twenty minutes, the Juniors were outshot once again. Gatineau’s Steven Delisle and Joshua Domingues brought the score to 4-1 before Montreal’s defenseman Alex Wall found the back of the net. Forward Philippe Halley finally confirmed the win for his team with Gatineau’s 5th goal.
Next Thursday, the action continues at Samuel Moskovitch Arena in Côte St-Luc, with a 7:35 p.m. matchup against the Val D’Or Foreurs before they take on the Baie-Comeau Drakkar the following day in Laval, at the Colisée. Montreal’s home opening game will take place on Friday, September 25th at 7.35pm at the Verdun Auditorium (after four regular season games on the road).
