Juniors Trade Alex Wall for Dillon Donnelly

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

While it was thought that Alex Wall, a young, good skating defenseman for the Montreal Juniors had apparently dodged the trade bullet, in the wake of the Jake Allen trade comes the announcement that he has in fact, been traded.

On this, the last day of the trade window, the Juniors announced that they have traded the 19 year old Wall to the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for 16 year old Dillon Donnelly.

Donnelly, already 6’01”, 178-pound at the young age of 16 is a native of Amherst (USA) and was Moncton’s 1st round draft pick (16th overall) at the 2009 QMJHL draft. He brings with him a plu 6 rating in 26 games played for Moncton in his first year in the QMJHL.

Wall, who was part of Montreal’s inaugural season was a calming force on the blue line and his strides as he skated confidently from behind his own net as he led a rush into the offensive zone were constantly performed with ease and finesse. Wall’s leadership will surely be missed, however in the young Donnelly, coach and GM Pascal Vincent gets yet another building block with which to build a team that he can mold into a success story as was the case in his last stint with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

In the trade, Montreal also gave up a 3rd round pick in 2011, acquired from Lewiston, in exchange for a 1st round pick in the 2010 QMJHL Import Draft acquired from Val d’Or.
