Juniors, Stich Looking Good in 4-2 Win Over Gatineau in Game 4

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Juniors were unable to beat the Olympiques in Gatineau during the regular season in 4 tries. Tonight, in game 4 of the 2010 playoffs they won their second straight game on the road by beating the Olympiques 4-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the best of seven series.

Someone surely itching to get back into the action after serving a 6 game suspension, David Stich showed it in the first period as he opened the scoring on an early power play. Gatineau’s Denis Kindl responded only a few minutes later with a power play goal of his own to tie the score at 1, however Stich had a response at the 17:29 mark when his shot lit the lamp once more, giving the Juniors a one goal lead after one.

While the defense for both teams stepped up in the second period, Montreal broke loose as Trevor Parkes potted his 5th of the playoffs and extended the Juniors lead  to 3-1 at 14:17. This goal was scored on Dereck Tait, who replaced Maxime Clermont at the beginning of the 2nd period.

In the 3rd, Gatineau’s Alexander Beaton got Gatineau back into it with a shorthanded goal, but Matthew Brenton notched a shorthanded goal of his own to restore Montreal’s 2 goal lead and the game would eventually end with the score of 4-2.

Juniors goalie Jean-Francois Bérubé stopped 37of 39 shots in the win, while the Olympiques tandem of Dereck Tait and Maxime Clermont stopped 21/25 shots.

The Juniors will have a chance to end the series on home ice as they host game five on Friday, March 26 at 7:35 P.M. at the Verdun Auditorium.

Game six, if necessary, will be played the next day, Saturday, March 27th at Gatineau, and game seven (again if necessary) will be at the Verdun Auditorium on Tuesday, March 30th at 7:35 P.M.
