Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

On the day it was announced that number one goaltender Jake Allen had been traded , newly anointed number 1, Jean-François Bérubé put in a strong effort and the Montreal Juniors opened up a five-game road swing with a convincing 4-1 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

Trevor Parkes would get the puck rolling after he beat eagles goalie Olivier Roy with his nineteenth of the year (Elizier Sherbatov and David Stich at 7:26). Juniors captain Nicolas Chouinard, the game’s first star,  extended the lead two minutes later with an unassisted goal. He would also assist on two other Juniors goals. Screaming Eagles Brad Cuzner cut the lead to one as he scored before the end of the first.

Early in the second and while on the power-play, defenseman David Stich scored again (Chouinard and Jeremy Gouchie).  Gouchie would extend the Juniors lead to three goals as he notched his twelfth of the year from Hubert Genest and again, Chouinard at 9:25.

Montreal net-minder and Los Angeles King’s draft pick Jean-Francois Berube had to be very sharp as he put aside 34 of the 35 pucks thrown his way including in the last 2 periods when the Juniors were outshot in both frames.

The Juniors record is now  just over .500 with a taslly of 19-18-0-3 and they will try to improve that standing ad their road swing continues and the second half of the season rolls along.

Next stop: Halifax as they face the Mooseheads on Friday before their showdown against the top-ranked Sea Dogs in Saint John on Saturday.  The Juniors will return to Montreal on Sunday, January 17th, when they host the Victoriaville Tigers at 4:05PM.
