Juniors Outplayed Rocket 6-3

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Juniors needed to bounce back after a flat 3-1 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and they found their game with the first matchup of the 2009-2010 season against the PEI Rocket on Wednesday night. The scene was set with The Rockets having won their last game, and the Juniors looking to bounce back.

Final result: sticking to coach Pascal Vincent’s plan of skating hard for 60 minutes, the Juniors won the game 6-3.

In the first period, the Rocket appeared to want to take control of the game, however the Juniors countered back and scored the only goal of the period. Nicolas Chouinard potted his 3rd of the season.

A player of note was young Eliezer Sherbatov who figured in a couple of goals as well as 7 shots on net, not to mention the fact that most of his linemates’ own shots came from nifty passes off of Sherbatov’s stick. The feeling I got from seeing Guillaume Asselin play last season is increased as I watch the young 18 year old forward skate.

In the second frame, Marco Cousineau received 18 shots, three found the back of the net. Rocket’s Jarrad Struthers and Jean-Philippe Mathieu brought the mark to 2-1 before Montreal’s Jérémy Gouchie, Nicolas Chouinard and Guillaume Asselin score three unanswered goals.

During the last twenty minutes, Juniors’ #28 Pier-Antoine Dion got his first goal of the night, and brought the score to 6-3 at the end of the period to obtain the night’s third star. PEI’s Ben Duffy scored his third of the season half way in the period.

Montreal’s Jake Allen made 22 saves while his opponent, Marco Cousineau, formerly of the championship team Drummondville Voltigeurs, stopped 35 shots.

The Montreal Juniors Hockey Club will honor Émile “Butch” Bouchard on Friday, October 2nd, at 7.30 pm at the Verdun Auditorium, as the team will host the Saint John Seadogs. The team organizes a Paralympic Event on Sunday, October 4th at 4.05 pm as they host the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The Juniors will then hit the road to play in Baie-Comeau and Chicoutimi.
