After an exciting, yet disappointing 5-4 loss in their season opener against Shawinigan, the Montreal Juniors bounced back and are spreading the word that goal scoring will not be a problem this season as they came out on top yesterday, in a 7-6 victory over the visiting Gatineau Olympiques.
The young man all Juniors (and Canadiens) fans want to know about, Louis Leblanc scored his first goal and potted 2 assists in the effort and is forming what appears to become a highly potent scoring machine, with captain Nicola Chouinard and fellow Canadiens draft pick Philippe Lefebvre.
And just to confirm that the Juniors are not a one trick pony, Lefebvre ended the evening with 4 goals and one assist, making his first star nomination a no-brainer.
The “bad” news is that with the Canadiens’ rookie training camp set to start today in montreal, the Juniors will temporarily lose the service of Leblanc and Lefebvre, however the team, already without the services of starting goaltender Jean-François Bérubé (LA Kings) and forwards Trevor Parkes and Louis-Marc Aubry (Red Wings) will be intact in a few weeks looking to live up to their touting of “contender” in this early QMJHL season.
The Juniors head to Rimouski on the 17th and Drummondville on the 19th before they head back home to host the St John Seadogs on the 24th.
Read on for the official Juniors game recap.
