Juniors Lose in Shootout against the Wildcats

Moncton, October 9th 2010 – The Montreal Juniors visited Moncton for the second stop on this road trip as they faced the Wildcats at the Moncton Coliseum. The Juniors lost in shootouts, with a final score of 3-2. Montreal is now 6-1-2-1 while Moncton is at 7-3-0-2.

In the first, Daniel Petterson of the Moncton Wildcats scored the only goal of the period at 18:47, assisted by Alex Saulnier and Allain Saulnier.

David Rose, of Montreal, scored the only goal of the second period on the power play at 13:44, his fourth goal of the season.

In the third period, Brandon Gormley scored for Moncton at 7:18. With a minute left in the period, Philippe Lefebvre evened the score at 2-2, bringing the game into overtime.

No goals were scored in overtime. Brandon Gromley scored the winning goal in shootout, securing the win for the Wildcats.

Juniors’ Jean-François Bérubé stopped 24/26 while Shane Owen made 28/30 saves.

The Montreal Juniors will head to Saint-John as they face off against the Seadogs tomorrow afternoon, concluding their trip to the Maritimes. They will be playing again on home ice next Friday and Sunday, October 15th and 17th at the Verdun Auditorium, when they host the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and the Val d’Or Foreurs.

Saint-John Too Much for Montreal

Saint-John, October 10th 2010 – The Montreal Juniors encountered the Saint-John Sea Dogs this afternoon at the Harbour Station arena. The Juniors fell to 6-2-2-1 on the season, losing by a final score of 5-2.

In the first period, Louis Leblanc got the Juniors going when he tallied his fourth goal of the season at 5:07. The Sea Dogs stormed back when Jonathan Huberdeau scored tying the game up at 14:35. Only minutes later Stephen MacAulay scored again for the Saint-John team, giving them the lead.

Francis Meilleur scored the first goal of the second period at 9:10, his third goal of the season. At 12:57 Zach Phillips put the puck past Jean-François Bérubé and gave the Sea Dogs the lead. Minutes later Tomas Jurco scored for Saint-John followed closely by another goal by Jonathan Huberdeau, stretching the Sea Dogs’ lead to three goals, at 19:35.

No goals were scored in the third period.

Saint-John goaltender Frédéric Piché denied 32/34 shots. Juniors goalie Jean-François Bérubé stopped 13 of 18 shots on net and was replaced in the third period by Étienne Marcoux who made 10/10 saves.

The Juniors will be playing again on home ice next Friday and Sunday, October 15th and 17th, at the Verdun Auditorium when they face off against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and the Val d’Or Foreurs.
