
Juniors get much needed 2 points over Gatineau
From the Montreal Juniors press release: Game recap of Friday's 5-2 Victory over Gatineau Olympiques
Montreal, November 27th – The Montreal Juniors hosted the Gatineau Olympiques tonight in the Auditorium and defeated the Olympiques 5 to 2. It was a hard fought battle in first period, but the Juniors dominated the second and third period as Gatineau’s poor performing defense led them down. Matthew Brenton, Chris Thorne, Nicolas Chouinard, Trevor Parkes, and Guillaume Asselin scored the five Junior goals. Alexandre Touchette and Hubert Labrie scored the two Olympique goals.
Montreal came out the locker room with two quick goals in the first. Juniors forward Matthew Brenton put one past Maxime Clermont when he scored on his own rebound from the initial odd-man rush at 0:42. Chris Thorne extended the Juniors lead to two goals at 2:56 as he put the rebound home in traffic. The Olympiques tied the game before the end of the first as Alexandre Touchette and Hubert Labrie scored the two goals. Juniors took the lead again on a 5-on-3 power play in the second period when captain Nicolas Chouinard fired one top-shelf past Clermont at 11:38.
In the third, forward Trevor Parkes gave the Juniors a two-goal lead again as he one-timed Jeremy Gouchie’s pass right in front at 13:36 for his team-leading fourteenth of the year. Juniors forward Guillaume Asselin scored in traffic to make this a 5 to 2 game, which was also the final score of the match.
Jeremy Gouchie, Alex Wall, Hugo Deharnais, Eliezer Sherbatov, Philippe Fontaine, and Pier-Antoine Dion were on the assists for the five Junior goals.
Juniors goalie Jake Allen was stellar in the win as he stopped 34 shots. Olympiques goaltender Maxime Clermont denied 30 shots in the loss.
Montreal’s record improves to 13-14-0-1 while the Olympiques’ record is now at 15-10-0-1.
The Juniors will now start a back-to-back series against the Rimouski Oceanic. Montreal will visit Rimouski to face the Oceanic at 3PM Sunday, November 29th. Then, the Juniors will start a four-game homestand starting with the Oceanic on Friday, December 4th at 7:35PM. The Juniors will take on the Val-d’Or Foreurs on Sunday, December 6th at 4:05PM. Chicoutimi Saguneens and Baie-Comeau Drakkar will visit Montreal respectively on December 9th and December 11th at 7:35PM.
