The Juniors finished off the 2009 portion of their schedule with a 3-2 shoot-out less to the Val d’Or Foreurs on December 17th.

They will be idle until December 28th when they head to Gatineau to face the Olympique. Jean-François Bérubé will be expected to backstop the Juniors going forward as Jake Allen has been selected as one of the two goaltenders for Team Canada at this year’s World Junior Championships.

Following is the Juniors’ game recap

Montreal, December 17th, 2009 – After the tough loss to the Gatineau Olympiques, the Montreal Juniors looked to rebound tonight in Centre Air Creebec against division rival, the Val-d’Or Foreurs.   Samuel Morneau and Jean-Francois Leblanc tallied for the Foreurs.  Trevor Parkes and Chris Thorne scored for the Juniors.  It was a tightly fought battle, but it was Keven Guerette-Charland who scored the shootout winner as the Foreurs defeated the Juniors 3 to 2.

Samuel Morneau got the Foreurs on the score sheet in the first when he put home his seventeenth of the year at 6:43.  Center Jean-Francois Leblanc added another one at 11:05 as he extended the Foreurs lead to two goals.  Just seconds after, Juniors winger Trevor Parkes cut the deficit to one as he scored team-high sixteenth of the year from Jeremy Gouchie and Matthew Brenton.  Chris Thorne would even up the score for the Juniors just 27 seconds into the second period from defensemen Vincent Bourgeois and David Stich.

With no scoring in the third and overtime, the game was decided in a shootout.  Foreurs winger Keven Guerette-Charland got the shootout winner as Val-d’Or defeats Montreal 3 to 2.

Montreal goalie Jean-Francois Berube denied 26/28 shots in the loss.  Foreurs goalie Raffaele D’Orso made 34/36 saves in the win.  The Juniors have a record of 16-17-0-2 while the Foreurs’ record improves to 13-19-3-0.

After Christmas, the Juniors will travel to Gatineau to face the Olympiques again on December 28th.  They will return to Montreal when they play host to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday, December 30th, at 7:35PM.  The Foreurs will be in town Saturday, January 2nd, at 4:05PM.
