Sep 20 Juniors End Road Swing at .500

Maybe the Huskies were still feeling the sting of being eliminated from post-season play last year by the Montreal Juniors, or maybe 2 road games in less than 24 hours got the best of Montreal, but the final result was a 5-3 loss for the Juniors at the hands of Rouyn-Noranda in a hard fought match.

Montreal outshot 37-27 garnering Huskies netminder Mickael Audette the game’s first star, but it was the home team that scored first and often, getting a 3 goal lead in the first period.

Credit Montreal for making a game of it responding in the 2^nd with 2 goals of their own (Evegeny Salomonov and Hubert Genest each getting their second goals of the season). But althought the Juniors made the score close at 4-3  with just over a minute to play, the Huskies potted the back-breaking empty net goal for the eventual 5-3 win.

Montreal, September 19^th, 2009 – After a win in Val-d’Or Friday night against the Foreurs, the Montreal Juniors played in Rouyn-Noranda on Saturday for their first matchup of the 2009-2010 regular season against the Huskies, team they eliminated from the playoffs in March 2009. Goalie JF Bérubé is now back from LA to team up with 15 year-old Étienne Marcoux in the net.

The final score, 5-3 for Rouyn-Noranda.

In the first frame, the Huskies scored three unanswered goals as Nicolas Deslauriers, Alexandre Mallet and Alexandre Beauregard found the back of the net.

The second period belonged to Montreal as Belarus’ Evgeny Solomonov and 20 year-old veteran Hubert Genest brought their team back in the game.

During the last twenty minutes, Rouyn-Noranda’s #26 Michael Beaudry made it 4-2 before Montreal’s Eliezer Sherbatov scored during the last minutes of the game. Seconds later, #17 from Rouyn-Noranda, Jeff Desjardins, confirmed the win for his team with his first goal of the regular season.

Juniors’ JF Bérubé stopped 22 shots while Rouyn’s Mickael Audette made 34 saves.

The team will throw a tailgate party starting at 5pm on Friday, September 25^th, before the Juniors play their home opening game at 7.35pm, against the Lewiston MAINEiacs.

The team will then face off against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (September 27^th at 4.05pm), the PEI Rocket (September 30^th at 7.35pm) and the Saint John Seadogs (October 2^nd at 7.35pm). On Friday, October 2^nd, the Juniors will honor former hockey player Émile ‘’Butch’’ Bouchard before the game.
