Sep 03 Juniors edge Val D'Or 4-3 in Pre-Season Match

The Montreal Juniors improved their pre-season tally to 3-2 after an exciting 4-3 win over the Val D’Or Foreurs. While neither team was really the “home” team as the juniors have been playing their pre-season games in arenas around the greater Montreal area and abroad, the edge could have surely gone the Juniors’ way as this one was played in Cote St Luc.

With the score tied 3-3 in the dying moments of the 3^rd period, Juniors veteran Pier-Antoine Dion did what coach Pascal Vincent will be looking for him to do much more of this season, as he potted the game winner with only 3 ticks of the clock remaining.

The Montreal Juniors hosted the Foreurs de Val-d’Or on Thursday at the Samuel Moskovitch Arena of Cote Saint-Luc. With a record of 2-2- in the pre-season, the Juniors have already played in Longueuil, Shawinigan, Pointe-Claire and Valleyfield. The team will announce its official roster before Friday, September 11^th so players still have to fight for the last spots available on the team.

Montréal won 4-3 in their first matchup of the 2009-2010.

In the first, Val-d’Or’s Steven Verrilli scored his first goal, assisted by teammate Aliaksandr Famin. Montreal’s Belarus player, Evgeny Solomonov took advantage of his team’s second powerplay to bring the score to 1-1.

During the second period, Foreurs’ #20, Olivier Archambault, gave his team the lead.

Finally, the third was filled with action. Rookie Eliezer Sherbatov and veteran Jérémy Gouchie each scored before Val-d’Or’s Matthieu Thériault tied the game, 3-3. Three seconds before the end of the game, Montreal’s Pier-Antoine Dion brought the score to 4-3 to give his team the win.

The Montreal Juniors will now play in Laval at the Colisee against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Friday, September 4^th, at 7:35pm for their last game of the pre-season. For the beginning of the 2009-2010 regular season, the team will hit the road to play in Shawinigan, Victoriaville, Val-d’Or and Rouyn-Noranda (on September 11^th, 13^th, 18^th and 19^th) before they come back at the Verdun Auditorium for their home opening game on Friday, September 25^th, at 7:35 pm.
