Juniors' backs against wall as Lewiston takes 3-1 series lead

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

JuniorsThey say that speed kills. That is basically what Lewiston’s skates did to the Montreal Juniors last night in Maine as “holding” and  “checking from behind” penalties resulted in 2 Lewiston goals as the MAINEiacs skated to a 4-1 victory.

Lewiston now takes a commanding 3-1 series lead in the best of seven series back to Montreal Friday night, where they can upset the Montreal Juniors on home ice.

Read on for the official Juniors game recap.

The MAINEiacs won Game 4 of their series against the Montreal Juniors by a 4 to 1 score. Lewiston now leads the series three games to one.

In the first period, Lewiston’s Michael Chaput opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the playoffs. Montreal’s reply came in the second frame, when David Rose found the back of the net for his third marker of the post season.

In the third period, MAINEiacs forward Kirill Kabanov scored twice within a four minute span, giving his team a lead it would not relinquish. The goals were his third and fourth of the playoffs. His teammate Antoine Houde-Caron scored his second of the post season into an empty net during the final minutes of play.

Étienne Brodeur of the MAINEiacs picked up two assists.

Montreal goaltender Jean-François Bérubé stopped 27 of 30 shots. At the other end of the ice, Nicholas Champion turned aside 31 of the 32 shots he faced. Kirill Kabanov (LEW), Nicholas Champion (LEW) and Michael Chaput (LEW) were respectively named first, second and third stars of the game.

The series continues Friday night at the Verdun Auditorium, with Game 5 beginning at 7:05pm.
