Jonathan Narbonne Seriously Injured in Juniors Pre-season Game

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

juniormThe pre-season game between the Montreal Juniors and the Shawinigan Cataractes came to an abrupt end this Sunday afternoon when Juniors defenseman Jonathan Narbonne suffered a serious head  injury incurred during an on-ice scuffle.

With 8:21 remaining in the game, a mêlée ensued at the side of goaltender Etienne Marcoux’s net. Defenseman Etienne St-Germain of the Cataractes and Narbonne exchanged a few blows and in the process, Narbonne lost helmet. His effort to take down St-Germain backfired and instead it was he that fell to the ice, head first.

The young Juniors defenseman was in convulsions while on the ice and received first aid from both teams’ trainers, ambulance technicians and a doctor in order to try and stabilize him.

Once it was safe enough to move Narbonne, he was transported to the Three-Rivers Hospital. Narbonne was conscious during trip.

We at the Franchise wish Jonathan Narbonne a quick recovery and our thoughts are with him and his family at this time.

Update to follow as soon as Jonathan’s status is clarified.

Thanks to Pierre-Luc Chenel at Sports Juniors for the info.
