Juniors presser: Jake Allen Makes Team Canada

After the disappointment of not making the team last year, Jake Allen has bounced back  and made the 2009/10 Team Canada World  Junior Team Roster this time around. His next goal : Become the starter.

One has to wonder what was going through the young St Louis Blues prospect all of last year when he failed to make the cut under Pat Quinn’s leadership, and worse yet, his teammate Angelo Esposito, who did make the team, came back sporting a World Junior Championship gold medal. Ever the quiet type, Allen continued on, trying to better his game, leading his Montreal Juniors to the second round of the QMJHL’s playoffs where they fell to the eventual champions, Drummondville.

It would appear that this year has brought many changes with it. As Jake skated off the ice in his last game before the World Junior selection camp, he was applauded and thanked by fans and players alike, as rumour has it that a trade was in the works that would see Jake in another uniform when his stint in Regina was complete.

No announcement yet as to whether Allen changes address in January, however one thing is certain, he has made the team and has his sights on the number one position as he and Martin Jones of the WHL will battle it out for the high profile spot between the pipes.

Allen’s record this season for the Montreal Juniors is 11-11 with a GAA of 2.66 and a save percentage of .912, having faced 624 shots in that span. Jones, of the Calgary Hitmen, is 15-5 with a GAA of 2.83 and a save percentage of .897 having faced 556 shots.
