Juniors presser on Jake Allen and Team Canada

Montreal Juniors net-minder Jake Allen has been invited to Team Canada’s Junior team’s selection camp.

Many questions surround Allen’s future in the next few months. Allen didn’t make the cut last year after a 2008 stint with Canada’s U18 team saw him win a gold medal as well as”best goalie” nod. Will he make the team this season?

Many are also wondering if Allen, who, if selected, will be heading to Regina as a Montreal Junior, will return as one. Much speculation has been made that coach and General Manager Pascal Vincent would have no choice but to trade one of his 2 goaltenders (both NHL draft picks) for some value up front.

With Allen, a St Louis Blues prospect, and fellow goalie Jean-Francois Bérubé picked by the Los Angeles Kings at last year's draft, it is just a question of time before both camps will be asking that their interests get the lion’s share of ice time. One would thisnk the time is right to pull the trigger on a trade that would satisfy all parties. And common sense has it that Jake, a proven number 1 in the QMJHL is the bigger bait.

Please read on for the Juniors press release.
