Impact to Play Antigua Barracuda FC in International Friendly

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

In keeping with their tradition to participate in international friendly competition, the Montreal Impact announced Friday that they would play a home-and-away friendly series against Antigua Barracuda FC.

The two squads will  match up Saturday, April 17, at 7:30 pm at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, in Antigua, and then Saturday, September 4, at 2:30 pm at Saputo Stadium.

Created in 2008, Barracuda FC is a professional club evolving in the Antigua and Barbuda first division championship. The team is mainly made up of players from the Antigua and Barbuda National Team, currently ranked 11th in the CONCACAF.  Barracuda FC may be a team Montreal fans will see more of in the near future.

“In response to the interest generated by our international matches last season, we are happy to offer this game to our fans this summer,” declared Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. “Barracuda FC applied to join the NASL in 2011, so we will be giving fans a preview of a future opponent.”

“Our club is very honoured to be included in the 2010 calendar of games of the Montreal Impact,” said Gordon Derrick, Chairman of Antigua Barracuda FC. “This series of games is an excellent opportunity to compete against the 2009 USL champions, while at the same time preparing the club tremendously for a smooth transition into the league.”

“The Impact is not a stranger to the Antigua and Barbuda public as one of our star players, Peter “Big Pete” Byers, is an integral part of the Impact’s squad,” added Gordon Derrick. “As a matter of fact, the Impact games are watched on the local cable network. We do anticipate that this series will spark a true rivalry between both clubs.”

Tickets for this match are included in season ticket packages, currently available by dialing 514-328-3668 or by visiting impactmontreal.com. Individual tickets for this match, as well as for regular season matches and the Nutrilite Canadian Championship at Saputo Stadium, will be on sale starting Monday, March 29, 9 am.
