Impact Salvage Point in 2-2 Draw Vs Carolina
Just when it looked like the Impact was on it’s way to a road loss and with it, the relinquishment of 2nd place in the NASL Conference, a controversial call and a penalty kick goal by Tony Donatelli with 20 seconds left in extra time gave Montreal a 2-2 tie with the Carolina RailHawks.
Simon Gatti got the impact to within 1 goal, his first of the season, only moments after Carolina made it 2-0, marking the Impact’s 600th goal in team history.
With the Impact pressing in the late stages of added time, Railhawk striker Sallieu Bundu, in what appeared to be an instinctive reaction to the ball being kicked at his upper torso, made contact with his elbow and was assessed a handball penalty. Tony Donatelli, who already has a PK goal this season, did not miss on his attempt and the Impact went on to tie the game, much to the frustration of Railhawk coach Martin Rennie, who almost had to be contained as he tried to confront the referee postgame.
