Feb 11 Impact reveal 2010 Calendar

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for the 2010 Impact season to arrive. After a championship victory in what eventually was the last USL season, I’m anticipating the new USSF D-2 league’s new layout and the competition 2 divisions (USL and NASL) can bring to the mix. 

This past  Monday, the Montreal Impact revealed their 2010 schedule in the USSF Second Division. The Impact will begin their championship title defence starting Sunday, April 11th against the Austin Aztex in Austin with their home opener later that month against the Portland Timbers on April 25th.

Just like daylight savings time, the 2010 season will be the season will start earlier and finish later, for what the league calls a “more balanced game schedule” meaning the Impact will mostly, only play one match per week with no more than two games slated in the same week.

The creation of this new USSF (United States Soccer Federation) Division-2 league, will see the Impact facing three new expansion clubs that joined the NASL ranks: AC St. Louis, Crystal Palace Baltimore and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  Many soccer enthusiasts will recall the Rowdies from their time in the Former NASL back in the early 80’s.

Regarding the playoffs, the top two teams from both divisions will become the top two seeded teams. The first eight teams in the general standings will advance to the playoffs, which will start on October 4th. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship final will be played in an aggregate goal, home-and-away series.

And there will be bonus soccer for Impact fans if they fare well in the Nutrilite championship and consequent CONCACAF tournament as well.
