Impact One Step CLoser To MLS With Garber's Visit to Montreal

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

It would appear that the Montreal Impact’s  hopes of joining the MLS have taken another step in the right direction today.

Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber visited Montreal today to meet with Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo and government officials to discuss possible MLS expansion into Canada’s second-largest market.

While it was speculated that the only thing holding up negotiations was the government’s cooperation with the granting of funds, the fact that government officials were present at this meeting is a very positive sign.

With Philadelphia joining in 2010 as well as Vancouver and Portland in 2011, once Montreal and the MLS come to an agreement, expect both to do everything in their powers to have the Impact join the MLS sooner rather than later.

Please read on for the official Impact press release.
