Impact Look to the Comfort of Home, Play Aztex Sunday
After a loss and most recently a win in their last two games on the road, the Montreal Impact (8-10-5) are back at home for a three game stretch and will look to string a few together as they attempt to cement a spot in the USL playoffs prior to season's end. They will git it all started Sunday, when they host the Austin Aztex at Saputo Stadium, at 3:30 pm (Radio-Canada, FSW, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990).
The Impact faces the expansion team Aztex for the third and final time this season, having gone 1-0-1 in their previous meetings, including a 4-0 rout on May 17th.
Montreal is currently in sixth place in the USL First Division standings with 29 points, one point in front of Vancouver and four points behind 5th place Rochester.
The Aztex are second last in the standings with only three wins in 23 games, but that doesn't confort coach Marc Dos Santos, who knows all to well that you can not take any team too lightly.
"We shouldn't expect an easy match against Austin, even if the club sits at the bottom of the standings," he said. "There is a lot of parity in our league and there isn't a single team that is weak. Even if we obtained good results against them earlier this season, the situation is not the same at all because we are facing this club in very different circumstances. We absolutely need to win this match because we need to earn a maximum number of points at home."
Defender Stephen deRoux will perhaps see some action as he has recovered from a light fracture of a cheekbone back on July 25th against Austin. He will play for approximately two weeks with the same type of mask that goalkeeper Matt Jordan used when he fractured his jaw in 2007. deRoux missed seven matches, including five regular season games.
Not appearing in this match will be Simon Gatti who will serve his automatic one-game suspension after receiving his 5th caution of the season in a previous game against Portland on August 12th.
