Impact vs railhawks

The Montreal Impact (9-10-5), fresh off a two game winning streak are looking to not only make it 3 in a row, but also attain a .500 record in the process. In a scheduling oddity, they will meet, for the first time this season and play the first of two home matches against the Carolina RailHawks (14-5-6) this Sunday at Saputo Stadium, at 3:30 pm (Radio-Canada,CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).

While the Impact’s calendar, with 6 games remaining and five of them at home, is rather favourable, Carolina is the only team that is above them in the USL standings. The Railhawks, presently in 3rd place overall, just came off a statement game where they annihilated Miami FC by a score of 9-0 last Wednesday and are unbeaten in their last 8 games (5-0-3).

Since the season’s start, Impact injured Impact players totalled 110 missed games. This Sunday, only Simon Gatti should miss the match with a thigh injury. "It feels good to see that almost everybody is healthy,” said Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. “It was tough this season to have to change our line-up at every game. A number of less experienced players had to play key roles. We hope of course to avoid injuries from now to the playoffs."

"Everything is going well for us now and the confidence is there," Dos Santos went on to say. "The players are more conscious that they need to play to their maximum during the 90 minutes and especially that they have to end their matches on a strong note."

“Two wins against the RailHawks would almost guarantee us a spot in the playoffs,” said team captain Mauro Biello. “It would build our confidence for the last season matches. As they did against Miami, we want to send a message to the other clubs in the league that we are better than a 6th place team.”

If history has any part to play in the psyche or confidence of either team, last season, the Impact won their three games against Carolina by shutout: 3-0, June 22 at Saputo Stadium and 2-0 twice in Cary, August 8 and August 30.

Both teams will match up again at Saputo Stadium Wednesday at 7:30 pm (CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990, USLlive.com).
