Impact Awards Banquet - Recognition and Optimism

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Impact’s 2009 awards banquet was a lively, optimistic love-in of sorts as all in attendance were chatting up the scenario of Montreal’s chances of winning the USL championship on home field.

Stalwart midfielder David Testo won the MVP, gritty leader and defensive pillar Nevio Pizzolitto was named devensive player of the year, shifty and nimble defender Stephen deRoux got newcomer of the year and tenacious and imposing defender Adam Braz was awarded the team’s unsung hero award.

But in accepting the individual award, all players indicated that while it was nice to be recognized, the team still had 2 more games to play and each took the time to sincerely thank their teammates, in general and individually, for the support and the teamwork.

Adam Braz said it best when he mentioned in his speech that he would “trade it all in for a Championship in two weeks”.

A great night that saw special invitees, media and Impact players and staff mingle together and speak of the past seasons trials and accomplishments, the evening was only made more special with the optimism that the Impact, despite a rough start up to the midway point of the season, were now 4 “halves” away from the USL Championship at Saputo Stadium.

Please read on for the full Impact press release.
