Impact Adding to the D with French Player Richard Pelletier

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Impact are continuing to add players to their roster calling them depth moves and while the recent additions have been on the offensive third, this time it is to help bolster the depleted and tiring d-line.

Young French defender Richard Pelletier , who presently plays for Stade Brestois in France is signed with Montreal for the remainder of this season as well as the 2011 season.

Pelletier will not be showcased to the Impact faithful for at least the recent future, however, as he is still  not officially released by his French club, and there’s the issues of his international transfer as well as the usual “pending to the league’s approval” issues to contend with. He may suit up by end of August or beginning of September.

Pelletier, 21, has played the last three seasons with the Stade Brestois, in France. After playing with Brest’s B-team in 2009, he was transferred to La Vitréenne FC of the Championnat de France Amateurs (CFA), the French Amateur Championship, on July 10, 2010. Prior to joining Brest, he had played with Niort and Angers.

“With the injury to Stephen deRoux, it was important to add depth to our left side,” said Impact technical director Nick De Santis. Simon Gatti can help us in that position, but we are hoping that Pelletier will be a good insurance policy, especially since he is naturally left-footed. We have heard a lot of good things about this young prospect, whose style of play is comparable to that of Philippe Billy.”
