Habs Release First Five Players From Training Camp
The inevitable bad news came to 5 Hab hopefuls as the streamlining process begins, cutting down the 58 man roster to 23 as the Canadiens training camp begins to wind down.
While this may be bad news for the young prospects individually, including the Montreal Juniors’ Philippe Lefebvre, it is great news to QMJHL team he belongs to who is presently 1-2-1 while awaiting the other 6 NHL prospects’ return.
Lefebvre’s Juniors line-mate, Louis Leblanc has survived this wave of cuts and speculation is that he will get to suit up for the Canadiens first preseason game against the Boston Bruins Wednesday night at the Bell Centre.
Read on for the official Habs press release.
MONTREAL (September 20, 2010) – The Montreal Canadiens announced today that forwards Philippe Lefebvre (Montreal – QMJHL) and Brendan Gallagher (Vancouver – WHL), defensemen Morgan Ellis (Cape Breton – QMJHL) and Joe Stejskal (Dartmouth – ECAC), as well as goaltender Nicholas Champion (Lewiston – QMJHL) were released from training camp and returned to their respective team.
Fifty-three (53) players are still at training camp, including five (5) goaltenders, eighteen (18) defensemen and thirty (30) forwards. The list includes four injured players: Andrei Markov, Roman Hamrlik, Hunter Bishop and Dany Massé.
The Canadiens will play five preseason games in six nights, starting this Wednesday, September 22 against the Boston Bruins at the Bell Centre.
