The Montreal Canadiens, on the heels of the announcement that Julien Brisebois, like so many Canadians has become a snowbird and headed south to Tampa, have announced that Larry Carrière has been hired as the Habs’ assistant general manager.
Carrière’s official title has the added mention of “player personnel” as his strengths while with the Sabres and most recently the Capitals was in player development and scouting. He will no doubt also take over the running the Hamilton Bulldogs, with the departure of Brisebois, however a capologist, Carrière is not.
One would assume the Canadiens are comfortable with the 4+ million they have left in salary cap and the remaining players they need to sign, including Carey Price, that for now, they can survive without a great CBA and cap mind like Brisebois, however this is a position that will no doubt, also be soon filled.
With the hiring of Carrière, look for the naming of a Bulldogs coach to surface real soon, as now, it is apparent that the impending departure of Brisebois was obviously the reason for the bottleneck in that announcement.
Read on for the official Canadiens’ press release.
