
Habs Make it Official with Press Releases on Brian Gionta and Hal Gill

For those of you that were foaming at the mouth thinking a trade was on the horizon since the Habs were not quick to produce the official press releases for newly acquired Hal Gill and Brian Gionta, you can now settle down, as it appears these two players, with their multi year deals will do.

st, 2009) – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of forward Brian Gionta to a five-year contract (2009-10 to 2013-14). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Last season, Gionta, 30, finished 5th in scoring with the Devils with 60 points in 81 games (20 goals, 40 assists). He served 32 penalty minutes, had a +12 plus/minus rating and averaged 16:58 of ice time per game.
The native of Rochester, New York will be entering his 8th NHL season in 2009-10. He played a total of 473 NHL career regular-season games with New Jersey recording 312 points (152 goals, 160 assists), 227 penalty minutes and a +62 plus/minus. Gionta was a member of New Jersey's 2003 Stanley Cup Championship team.
The right winger was a 3rd round selection by the Devils, 82nd overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. That year, he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year (NCAA) while with Boston College. Gionta was twice a member of Team USA at the World Junior Championship (1999, 2000) and also played in two World Hockey Championships (2001, 2005).

st, 2009) – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of defenceman Hal Gill to a two-year contract (2009-10 to 2010-11). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Last season, Gill, 34, played in 62 games with the Stanley Cup Champions Pittsburgh Penguins. He registered 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists), amassed 53 penalty minutes with a +11 plus/minus rating and an average ice time of 17:53 minutes.
The Concord, Massachusetts native will be entering his 12th NHL season in 2009-10. He played in a total of 851 career regular season games in the NHL with Boston, Toronto and Pittsburgh recording 151 points (31 goals, 120 assists), served 800 penalty minutes and is a +69 plus/minus rating. Gill played 80 NHL career playoff games.
The 6’7’’, 250-pound defenceman was an 8th round selection by the Bruins, 207th overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
