The Montreal Canadiens announced today the re-signing of forward Mathieu Darche to a one year contract. The contract is believed to be of the one-way, league minimum variety but that Habs, for now, are not saying.

When Darche, former captain of the Hamilton Bulldogs, was called up to join the Canadiens due to a rash of injuries that plagued the team all season, he brought with him an excellent attitude and hard work ethic.

Darche is a player that has no illusions of his role on the team, a mature, professional 4th liner who will give it his all on every shift.

While some may have preferred Glen Metropolit in Darche’s place to return to the team, I’m assuming Darche’s lower price, younger age and nationality made this choice a no-brainer for the team.

Please read on for the Habs’ official press release.
