Gatineau Olympiques Force Game Seven

Written by Nick Murdocco. Posted in Blogs - Nick Murdocco

The Montreal Juniors and the Gatineau Olympiques faced off at centre Robert-Guertin in Gatineau on Saturday for the sixth match of their playoff series. The Juniors headed into the game with a lead in the series for the second time, looking to join Drummondville and St-John who have already qualified for the quarter finals.

The Olympiques ended up with the win with a final score of 4-1, forcing game seven of this series, to be held in Montreal. The series is currently tied at 3-3, with the Juniors having home ice advantage in what could be their final game.

In the second, Guillaume Asselin tied the game with assists from Xavier Ouellet and Trevor Parkes and the two teams would head into the third period tied at 1.

Three minutes into the third period Olivier Groteau gave Gatineau the lead once again. But then Montreal got into penalty trouble which allowed Denis Kindl and Yoan Pinette  to put the game away for the Olympiques.

Despite the loss, Jean-François Bérubé had another solid performance for the Juniors, stopping 24 of 28 shots on net. Maxime Clermont was less busy and stopped 18 of 19 shots for the Olympiques in the win.

Pascal Vincent’s troops will head back into the city with two days rest before facing elimination on Tuesday March 30th at 7:35 in the Verdun Auditorium.
