Don Lever, Assistant Ron Wilson Fired By Gainey, Canadiens

According to this and oth  er sources, it would appea  r that long time Hamilton   Bulldog Coach Don Le  ver, as well as his assi  stant coach Ron Wilson, have been let go by the Montreal Canadiens.

Apparently, Gainey phoned Lever last week to simply state that the team "was going in a different direction." The whole "it's not you, it's me" breakup between the two parties seems rather surprising as Lever was called up to the big leagues after Gainey had made Guy Carbonneau  aware that his walking papers were ready, just prior to the playoff push.

In what seems to be the begining of a trend, Lever said “I’m very disappointed. Somewhere along the line I must have done something wrong, but they didn’t tell me what it was. I just don’t understand how I can be called up and then discarded.”

It would seem that Carbonneau is still waiting for his explanations, but then again, perhaps both he and Lever may know the reasons, but what would you expect them to say at a time like this?

No official announcement from the Canadiens yet, but we will keep you posted on this as well as the replacement coaches surely to be named in the same press release.
