As was expected with the recently filled vacancy left by Julien Brisebois, the Montreal Canadiens have named a head and assistant coach for the Hamilton Bulldogs. They are Randy Cunneyworth and Randy Ladouceur, respectively.
In Cunneyworth, the Bulldogs get a coach that has proven convincingly that he knows how to win in the AHL. An added bonus, perhaps is that Cunneyworth, a former captain for the Ottawa Senators, has history with Jacques Martin. Cunneyworth also has a knack for coaching how he played, giving no quarter and strong on the fore-check.
In Ladouceur, the Canadiens as an organisation have, for the first time since Rick Green, a coach that was once a bonafide NHL defenseman. This could help down on the farm as the blue line, already lacking in depth before the departure of PK Subban, will need development, structure and a “been there, done that” tutelage that Ladoueceur will surely provide.
Please read on for the official Habs press release.
